MultiChoice honours Mandela with DStv channel
MultiChoice has paid tribute to Mandela following his passing on 5 December 2013, and announced it will be honouring his memory with a special channel on DStv.
President Jacob Zuma announced the former leader’s death on the public broadcaster just before midnight.
“He passed on peacefully in the company of his family around 20.50pm on December 5. He is now resting, he is now at peace. Our nation has lost its greatest son,” Zuma said.
“Fellow South Africans, Nelson Mandela brought us together and it is together that we bid him farewell.”
After the announcement, Social media channels, media outlets, broadcasters and radio airwaves across the globe lit up with tributes from across the world, bidding farewell to beloved South African leader, who touched the lives of so many.
“It is a sad day for the MultiChoice family and for our nation. The loss of our beloved Tata Madiba will be felt for a very long time,” said Nolo Letele, Executive Chairman, MultiChoice.
“Tata’s contribution to our country has been immeasurable and his teachings will always be a part of us – leading us towards a better future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mandela family during this sad time. Madiba – you will be sorely missed.”
Channel 199 on DStv will be running tributes in honour of Mandela’s memory, the service announced, with schedules for programming to be announced soon.
