DStv price hikes for 2024 – with good news for streaming

DStv has announced its new pricing for 2024, effective 1 April, with increases ranging from 3.1% to 7.8%.
The group said it would try to keep increases to a minimum, given the prevailing economic environment – and to this point, said it would not increase prices for its streaming customers.
It has also introduced contract options so that customers can keep prices fixed for the remainder of their contracts.
DStv Premium will see an increase of 5.7%, taking the price to R929 per month. This is higher than the CPI print of 5.1% in December 2023.
Compact Plus (6.9%), Compact (4.5%), Family (3.1%), and DStv Access (7.8%) will also receive an increase.
EasyView, ADD Movies, and BoxOffice pricing will stay unchanged in 2024, and all streaming-only services will maintain their current subscription fees.
Access fees will, however, go up from R115 to R120.
Customers who use Price Guarantee before 31 March 2024 will pay R879 for Premium, R399 for Compact and R109 for Access.
“We believe these adjustments are reasonable considering the significant 16% year-on-year depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar, and our commitment to securing long-term broadcast sports rights and international studio deals, which are priced in US Dollars,” said MultiChoice SA CEO Marc Jury.
