8ta planning disruptive mobile VoIP services

Amith Maharaj, Senior Managing Executive: Telkom Mobile, says that the company’s Hulk Series of data plans (which include their 3GB, 10GB and 120Gb data promotions) are the most popular data packages. The company is now getting ready to compliment its aggressive data prices with disruptive voice services.

8ta has offered aggressively-priced data services since it launched, which includes the company’s 10GB for R199 product. 8ta’s mobile data pricing undercuts all its competitors in the market, which is in-line with the company’s data strategy.

Telkom CFO and Telkom Mobile acting head, Jacques Schindehutte recently said that it is not a good strategy to try to compete head-on against Vodacom and MTN in the mobile voice market, and that 8ta’s future lies in data.

Telkom CEO, Nombulelo Moholi said that 8ta has launched highly-competitive and leading data offerings, and that these data offerings will include disruptive voice packages in future.

“8ta does plan to offer an 8ta VoIP service, however, the details of the offering and launch date cannot be disclosed,” said Maharaj.
