MTN Group has appointed Godfrey Motsa to the position of CEO of MTN SA with effect from 13 March 2017.
It comes after Mteto Nyati stepped down from the role as the CEO of MTN’s local unit. Nyati will be jumping from the mobile operator to electronics group Altron, where he will serve as the company’s new CEO, it announced on Tuesday.
The mobile operator said that Motsa is currently VP of the SEA region at MTN Group. “He has over 10 years of experience in the mobile telecoms industry, having occupied the positions of CEO of Vodacom Lesotho, CEO of Vodacom DRC and more recently chief officer consumer business unit at Vodacom SA.
The incoming Group CEO & president Rob Shuter, said: “I am delighted that Godfrey will assume the position of CEO at MTN SA. We have worked well together in the past and I know he brings considerable experience and value to the position. ”
Executive chairman at MTN Group, Phuthuma Nhleko said: “The appointment of

Last week, Africa’s biggest mobile-phone operator reported its first annual loss in its 22-year history.
