Vodacom signs $20 million deal with US game publisher

Vodacom Group has partnered with US-based mobile game publisher, GameMine, in a $20 million (R260 million) deal to bring subscription-based mobile games to the South African market.

GameMine will provide a selection of its ad-free mobile games, which include more than 175 titles spanning all major mobile gaming genres, free of charge to Vodacom subscribers during a promotional trial period.

The deal forms part of Vodacom’s  Meg Your Day promotion, which offers prepaid, contract, and hybrid plan subscribers free data for certain services.

“MegYourDay is the product of numerous conversations with customers, and really listening to what they’re wanting as added value for being part of the Vodacom family. It is also part of our commitment to delivering digital content services in the most affordable way,” said Nyimpini Mabunda, chief officer consumer business unit.

The partnership will provide Vodacom’s South African iPhone and Android users with access to GameMine’s mobile games in an ad-free manner.
