MTN Rwanda will pay the FRw 7.03 billion (R111 million) fine handed to it by the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority, Rwanda Eye reported.

It agreed to pay the fine after months of negotiations failed and will pay the full amount this month, stated the report.

The company previously said the fine relates to non-compliance with the directives issued by the regulator prohibiting the inclusion of MTN Rwanda in the MTN South and East Africa IT hub based in Uganda.

MTN Rwanda CEO Bart Hofker said the fine would not affect customers and would not be paid by MTN Group, but by MTN Rwanda, stated the report.
