Mobile operator Cell C has announced a new partnership with online sports betting website, Clickabet, to offer mobile sports betting in SouthAfrica.
On Wednesday (11 October) the operator announced that it would be offering the mobile service for the group, as a value-added service for its customers.
The Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) Gambling Outlook Report (2014-2018) indicates that the total market revenue for sports betting in South Africa is R36 billion in 2017 of which approximately R2 billion is already the online share of the total market revenues.
Clickabet was started by former Altech CEO Craig Venter in 2016.
At present, only soccer, cricket and tennis are available to bet on through the new mobile service, but more sports will be added in the coming weeks, the group said.
It will roll out in Gauteng stores – 60 stores – from Wednesday, as part of a trial phase. It will then be rolled out nationally in the coming months.
As part of the partnership, Cell C said it will match your first deposit rand-for-rand, up to R2,000.
Cell C customers can sign up for the service by going into a Cell C store with their FICA documentation, and can activate a Clickabet prepaid debit card.
The card costs R75, and users will receive R25 betting credit.
Once your card has been activated, you will receive value to start betting – which you can do by dialling *147# and selecting option 10 on Cell C’s USSD pages.
Winnings can be moved to the Clickabet prepaid debit card, and bets and withdrawals may be done through the Clickabet website.
The Clickabet prepaid debit card is endorsed by Mastercard and will allow users to withdraw their winnings from any ATM in the country.
The card can also be used to buy prepaid airtime and data, and to pay for prepaid electricity and other products at retail stores.
There is no fee to receive a payout from your Clickabet account, and there is no minimum or maximum withdrawal amounts.
