Gautrain SMS alerts handled by NXT\ Digital Innovation

 ·17 Jan 2012

Towards the end of October last year (2011), Gautrain launched an SMS alert system to provide passengers with news and keep them updated about any delays.

NXT\ Digital Innovation issued a press statement today saying that they were appointed by Gautrain to implement and manage the system.

Wayne Levine, NXT\ Digital Innovation MD, notes that over 7,000 commuters have already signed up for the service, highlighting its potential for cost-effective marketing.

“The system will also offer Gautrain a highly cost-effective means of marketing to its user base travelling between Pretoria, Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport, keeping them informed of new options and developments.”

To activate the service, users need to SMS the word “alert” to 32693. Sending the subscription message costs the user R1, but after that the service is free, Gautrain said.
