A locally-developed internet application has won an international award in Florida, Business Day reported on Thursday.

The Naspers-owned application, PriceCheck, reportedly beat 100,000 entrants to win the International App of the Year at the BlackBerry Live conference in the United States on Wednesday night.

“What makes it truly outstanding for me is that it is a 100 percent South African-designed and conceptualised app that has won,” PriceCheck general manager Andre de Wet told the Business Day.

The PriceCheck website is a price comparison website, and is specifically designed for South African shoppers because it takes exchange rates into account.
