Afrihost has dismissed rumours that it may be an acquisition target for MTN after it launched mobile data products in partnership with Africa’s largest operator.

The Tech Financials blog recently reported that Afrihost may be one of the companies which MTN may be looking to purchase.

“Afrihost will be a perfect fit in MTN South Africa and will simplify hosting solutions for MTN customers and enable convergence of voice, video and data communications,” Tech Financials reported.

However, Afrihost director Greg Payne dismissed the report and related rumours, saying that there is no truth to this as far as Afrihost is concerned.

“I can confirm that Afrihost has not engaged in any talks of this nature with MTN thus far,” said Payne.

Afrihost launched its first mobile data products on 20 August 2013, with Payne saying that the group’s entrance into the mobile data market is aimed at making Internet access more affordable to more South Africans.
