Vodacom has hiked the price of Multi Data-SIMs from R9/month to R29/month for voice contract customers and R99/month for data contract customers, MyBroadband has learned.

Subscribers that already have Multi Data-SIMs will continue to pay the R9 per SIM per month, but any new activations will attract the new fees as of 31 January 2014.

Those on Vodacom’s “Red” plans (which start at R999/month), will also still get two free Multi Data-SIM (MDS) activations on their accounts

News of Vodacom’s Multi Data-SIM offering emerged during March 2011, allowing Vodacom contract customers to add up to four additional subscriber identity modules (SIMs) to their accounts.

While each SIM has its own number, they are all able to make use of a single account’s data bundle. BlackBerry Internet Service can also only be active on one of the SIMs at a time.

At the time, Vodacom said that the R9 per SIM per month fee was promotional.

It is worth noting that at R99/month, Vodacom has priced its MDS service for data contract subscribers at the same level as its 2GB data contract promotion.

Vodacom was asked about the price increases of its MDS service, but was not immediately able to comment.
