Driving safety test: handheld vs hands free mobile use

 ·21 Aug 2015

A new episode of MythBusters, a science entertainment television series on Discovery channel, tests the safety of driving when holding a mobile device, compared to driving hands free.

The show’s hosts test whether talking on a hands-free device more or less dangerous than talking while holding a mobile phone.

The city of Cape Town is ramping up its programme to enforce bylaws regarding the use of mobile devices while behind the wheel and has confiscated thousands of cellphones from drivers.

Cape Town has impounded close on 10,000 mobile phones in the programme since its launch in 2012.

The results from MythBusters could be viewed as controversial.
