The Hyundai Venue range has gained a new entry-level derivative, with the line-up now starting at R259,900 for the Venue 1.2 Motion.

This is R58,000 less than the previous entry-level model, and will compete with a number of recently launched vehicles into the local market, including the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Suzuki Vitara Brezza all of which are within the top 20 best selling passenger vehicle list for October.

After 9,500 Venues sold in under two years and by “boasting an impressive list of standard features”, this smallest SUV in the Hyundai range should attract more customers, said Hyundai.

Standard features in the new Venue 1.2 Motion include a multifunction steering wheel, manual air conditioner, fabric seats, all-round electric windows, and an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, app-based navigation, and voice control.

Safety and assistance features in the compact SUV comprises a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, two airbags, and ABS.

Hyundai said the Venue also provides “ample space for driver and both front and rear passengers, and a decent-sized luggage area” – coming in at 350 litres in a five-seater configuration.

Engine

Setting the new Motion apart from the previous entry-level model is the 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine in place of a turbocharged unit.

This motor is mated to a five-speed manual transmission with the setup putting out 61kW and 114Nm.

This allows the 1.2 Motion to reach 100km/h in 14.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 158km/h – while combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.5l/100km.

This Venue then sits on 15-inch wheels, boasts a ground clearance of 195mm, and allows a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,100kg.

Each purchase includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty with an additional 2-year/50,000km powertrain warranty, a 3-year/45,000km service plan, and 7-year/150,000km roadside assistance.
