Jeep has launched its all-new full-size SUV, the Grand Cherokee L in South Africa, offering 4×4 capability and advanced technology features.

The Grand Cherokee L is a premium 4×4 that can seat up to seven people and is offered in multiple configurations varying between R1.2 million and R1.6 million.

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited: R1,299,900
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee L Overland: R1,479,900
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve: R1,679,900

Jeep said that the new vehicle is re-engineered with a focus to optimise comfort, handling while reducing weight and improving fuel economy and off-road capability.

It sports a 3.6-litre V6 engine, rated at 210kW of power and 344Nm of torque. To save petrol, the SUV also has an engine start-stop mechanism.

The new Jeep is one of the company’s most tech-laden vehicles with a 10inch display that runs across the dashboard showing all necessary driving information and a fully digital rearview mirror.

“The digital rearview mirror displays video in real-time from a rear-facing camera, offering an unobstructed image by the D-pillars or rear seats. It also reverts to a traditional reflective mirror,” said Jeep.

Additionally, the Grand Cherokee L is the first production Jeep vehicle to offer a windshield full-colour Head-up Display (HUD).

The launch of the new Cherokee comes not long after the launch of the Gladiator Rubicon into the highlight competitive bakkie market.

The Grand Cherokee L will take on South African staples including the BMW X5, the Land Rover Defender, and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

The SUV comes with a standard five years/120,000km warranty and roadside assistance. Maintenance intervals are every 12 months or 12,000km, but five years/100,000km maintenance plan.
