A look at South Africa’s newest ‘skyscraper’ – with one-bedroom apartments from R2.18 million

Construction has started on a new mixed-use building in Cape Town’s CBD which is set to add to the city’s growing skyline – The Rubik.
Located on the corner of Loop and Riebeek streets, the Rubik consists of luxury residential apartments above premium offices and high-end retail space – all housed within a highly distinctive modern glass-clad ‘tiered’ building.
The project is being developed by Abland, with co-investors, and is designed by DHK Architects.
Once completed, eight floors of pet-friendly apartments will sit atop 17 floors of premium office and retail space, including a restaurant, coffee shop and café. Residents will also enjoy a private rooftop terrace with a pool and barbeque area.
Lesley Rensburg, Dogon Group sales agent for The Rubik, said that the apartments, penthouses and offices within The Rubik will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, 24-hour concierge security, state-of-the-art technology, luxury fixtures and finishes, minimalist elements of elegant stone, glass and wood, and lots of clean open spaces.
“These features – coupled with the prime location and spectacular views over Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the ocean – offer highly desirable inner-city living, with prices starting from R2.18 million for a one-bedroom apartment, ranging up to the most expensive 249 square-metre penthouse apartment on the 25th floor for R16.35 million,” she said. The one-bed apartments start at 43 square-metres.
- 1 bedroom apartment start at R2,180,000 for 40sqm
- 2 bedroom apartments start at R4,250,000 for 73sqm
- Penthouses apartments start at R7,650,000 for 113sqm
This was echoed by Leah Sleigh, sales agent for The Rubik, who noted that sales prices are only set to increase.
“We have had a high demand for apartments at The Rubik. Buyers who have an eye for contemporary design and premium architecture are drawn to this exceptional building in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which offers all of the benefits of a centrally situated mixed-use development, coupled with luxurious finishes and spectacular views.”
“Important to note for potentially interested parties is that the prices are set to increase from the beginning of July, and so now is the ideal time to invest in one of these exceptional units in the heart of Cape Town’s CBD”.
To date, the excavation and foundations have been completed, and work on the superstructure is proceeding apace. The Rubik is expected to be completed by March 2024.
