Major shopping mall owner in South Africa appoints new CEO
Growthpoint Properties has announced that Estienne de Klerk will take over as Group CEO next year.
Growthpoint Properties is the largest real estate investment trust in South Africa, and it owns office, retail, industrial, and residential properties across the country.
Its most notable asset is its 50% stake in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, which it owns alongside the Public Investment Corporation.
De Klerk will take over as Group CEO on 1 July 2026 and currently serves as the CEO of Growthpoint South Africa.
He works on key Growthpoint investment boards, such as V&A Waterfront Holdings and Growthpoint Properties Australia Ltd.
He is a Chartered Accountant and a Harvard Business School graduate, having completed an Advanced Management Program at that institution.
He also holds a BCom degree in Industrial Psychology and a BCom Honours degree in Marketing and Accounting. He is also a certified Master Practitioner in Real Estate.

Norbert Sasse will continue to serve as Group CEO until 30 June 2026, retaining full responsibility for the FY26 financial year.
To ensure a seamless transition, Sasse will continue with the company as an executive until 31 December 2026, when his contract expires.
Growthpoint also announced that José Snyders will take over as Group Chief Financial Officer effective 1 January 2026.
He is currently the CEO of Liberty Two Degrees Ltd, a role he assumed following his tenure as both Commercial Director and Financial Director.
He is also a Chartered Accountant with a BCom degree and two honours degrees, specialising in financial analysis and portfolio management and financial accounting.

Gerald Völkel will remain Group Financial Director until 31 March 2026 to complete the FY26 half-year results and hand them to Snyders.
