iPhone 14 opens for pre-orders in South Africa – pricing

 ·16 Sep 2022

iStore has announced the opening of pre-orders for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro range in South Africa from Friday (16 September).

Online pre-orders start at R20,599 for the 128GB iPhone 14, up to R41,499 for the 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iStore said its trade-in programme will also be available to assist with upgrading to the new iPhone. Through the trade-in programme, customers can own an iPhone 14 Pro for as little as R7,699 when trading in their old iPhone. This is dependent on the device being traded in, however.

The iPhone 14 pre-orders on contract are also now open via Vodacom, MTN or Telkom.

Apple unveiled the new iPhone earlier in September. The new phone retains the general look of the older version while getting camera enhancements, a long-anticipated satellite-messaging feature and – on the higher-end models – a new interface called the Dynamic Island.

The bulk of the iPhone upgrades are coming to the higher-end Pro line. Those devices will get a 48-megapixel camera and a screen that’s capable of always staying on in a low-power mode, similar to recent versions of the Apple Watch.

That will let the new phones show widgets with bits of information – weather, calendar appointments and stock tickers, for instance – while the rest of the screen remains off.

Apple has redesigned the notch at the top of the screen, essentially turning it into a new interface called the Dynamic Island. The Pro devices also will get the speedier new A16 processor, while the standard line will run a modestly souped-up version of the current A15. Apple describes the A16 as the fastest chip in a smartphone, 40% speedier than the competition.

Apple Watch

The group has also opened up pre-orders for other products, like the Apple Watch, starting at R5,999 for the SE and going up to R17,999 for the stainless steel Series 8.

Customers who pre-order online will have their Apple Watches delivered to their door on 23 September 2022.

As with the iPhone, customers can trade-in their current Apple Watch and receive a direct discount of up to R5,200, against the purchase of a new Apple Watch, iStore said.
