Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 13 smartphones in South Africa

Xiaomi has officially launched its Redmi Note 13 series in South Africa, and these smartphones are now available from Vodacom.

The range comprises the Redmi Note 13, Redmi Note 13 Pro, and Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, and BusinessTech got the chance to try each of these smartphones at a launch event in Braamfontein.

“The launch of the Redmi Note 13 series is here to push boundaries even further,” said Iris Cao, Marketing Manager at Xiaomi South Africa.

“I’m certain you will understand why we say the Redmi Note 13 series is here to make every shot iconic.”

We agree with Cao, as the most notable takeaway for us was the smartphones’ impressive camera systems, which lived up to their “iconic” billing.

The triple-sensor system of each of the Note 13 series smartphones allowed us to take excellent pictures at any distance.

The Redmi Note 13 has a 108MP camera, while the Note 13 Pro improves on this with 200MP for even clearer shots.

Most impressive is the camera system from the Note 13 Pro+ 5G, with its 200MP camera with OIS technology providing hyper-accurate motion capture, which we found great for capturing the more frenetic parts of the launch.

For avid photographers, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G also has a 4x lossless zoom that delivers greater clarity at long ranges.

Excellent displays

We were also impressed by each smartphone’s display.

The Note 13 and 13 Pro’s 6.67-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED displays provided crystal clear images, while the 13 Pro+ 5G stood out thanks to its flagship-calibre 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED curved display.

Each display also featured ultra-thin bezels with high peak brightnesses of up to 1,800 nits – which is extremely impressive for smartphones in these segments.

Long-lasting battery performance

While we couldn’t test the battery life at the event, the specifications are very impressive.

All three smartphones boast 5,000mAh batteries and use advanced charging technology.

This comprises 33W fast charge, 67W turbo charge, and 120W Hypercharge for the Note 13, Note 13 Pro, and Note 13 Pro+ 5G, respectively.

Cao noted that through the Redmi Note 13 series, Xiaomi continues its vision of making affordable and accessible smartphones for all South Africans without compromising on features and performance.

“Fourteen years ago, Xiaomi entered the smartphone game when top smartphone players were launching expensive devices that a young person couldn’t afford. Xiaomi, on the other hand, launched incredible devices at a price which I could afford,” said Cao.

“And to this day, we are still doing it – making sure that innovation is for everyone.”

The Redmi Note 13 series is now available with contracts from Vodacom that will run until 6 May while stocks last.
