vivo launches flagship X200 Pro smartphone in South Africa

 ·22 Jan 2025

The vivo X200 Pro smartphone has launched in South Africa.

Announced at an event hosted at Vodacom World, Midrand, the vivo X200 Pro is a flagship device that stands out for its camera, battery life, processing power, design, and AI tools.

The impressive ZEISS camera array is the headline features, and comprises three rear sensors as follows:

  • 50MP ZEISS True Colour Main Camera – with vivo x Sony LYT-818 Sensor
  • 200MP ZEISS APO Telephoto Camera – 100x HyperZoom
  • 50MP Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera – 119-degree wide angle

We put this incredible camera to the test by taking all of the images in this article with it, and were very impressed.

vivo also highlighted the innovative ZEISS T* Coating on the lens, which reduces flaring and reflections, while the ZEISS APO standard focuses on delivering professional-grade colour accuracy.

The wide range of lenses provides portrait photography capabilities at focal lengths ranging from 23mm to 135mm, and image processing is taken care of by an advanced 6nm vivo V3+ Imaging Chip.

In our experience, this chip delivered excellent photo clarity without draining too much power – and vivo agreed, as it said the imaging chip offers a 30% improvement in power efficiency compared to its predecessor.

“It goes without saying that the vivo X200 Pro sets the industry benchmark in terms of its telephoto experience, imaging capabilities, and video recording,” said vivo GTM Manager for South Africa Jay Yang.

Ultimate performance

The X200 Pro is equipped with a wide range of other impressive features – such as its processor.

The 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip offers a 28% performance improvement and a 40% reduction in power consumption. This ensures a smooth user experience without hammering the large 6,000mAh battery.

Together with the improved efficiency CPU and better heat dissipation, vivo said this battery provides users up to 18 hours of continuous video playback time and 9.1 hours of gaming time.

vivo also equipped the X200 Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage – competing favourably with other flagship smartphones in the segment.

Rounding out the X200 Pro is a 6.78-inch display, which boasts up to a 120Hz refresh rate.

“South Africans are looking for durability, performance, and battery life, and the vivo X200 Pro delivers on all of these fronts extensively,” said vivo PR Manager Faith Davids.

“It’s not only a camera phone – it’s great for imaging and excels on all fronts, and it speaks to all the needs of South Africans,” said Davids.
