Telkom kicked off its ADSL speed upgrade today (24 August 2012), where customers currently on an “Up to 1024 kpbs” ADSL offering will automatically be upgraded to “Up to 2048 kpbs” ADSL.

This first upgrade cycle is expected to continue for approximately six weeks – the time required to cover the national base Telkom said.

Customers currently on an “Up to 384 kbps” ADSL offering will be upgraded to “Up to 1024 kbps” in the next upgrade phase which will commence in October 2012. This process is also expected to continue for approximately six weeks.

“The speed upgrades enable Telkom Internet to effectively increase the value to entry-level broadband customers. It also illustrates that Telkom is in a position to create new products and services that allow customers to run multiple bandwidth-hungry applications simultaneously, and at faster speeds,” Telkom said in a press statement.

Telkom Internet uncapped ADSL subscribers will automatically be upgraded from the “do Uncapped Advanced” (Uncapped Up to 1Mbps), to 2 Mbps at no additional cost.
