An invitation by Research In Motion to an event in Sandton on 30 January, 2013, has confirmed the launch date for its much awaited BlackBerry 10 smartphone in South Africa.

“We look forward to seeing you at the exclusive BlackBerry Experience launch event on Wednesday, 30 January 2013,” the invitation read.

“The world is waiting, but you can see it first. Save the date to join us in Johannesburg on January 3oth for the global unveiling of BlackBerry 10”.

On Monday, RIM said it had begun a “beta testing” program for BlackBerry 10 smartphones, ahead of the global launch.

According to Reuters, the Canadian company, which has seen a sharp decline in market share for the BlackBerry, said the program would enable so-called enterprise customers in business and government to size up the BB10.

Features of the BB10 include the ability to separate personal and business information so that the user can store both without compromising security.

The company is set to publish its quarterly results on Thursday (20 December), and analysts expect it to report its third straight loss.
