Alan Knott-Craig Jnr, the founder of World of Avatar and former chief executive officer of mobile social media platform Mxit is on a self-imposed sabbatical, “which may or may not end in the next couple months”.
Knott-Craig Jnr acrimoniously stepped down from Mxit in October last year citing a difference in strategy with the company’s shareholders.
“While the shareholders and I share the same vision, we differ on how to get there. Therefore, I agreed to go my own way. I wish them all the best for the future,” he said at the time.
The entrepreneur is also no longer at the helm of the investment holding company he started up in Stellenbosch, World of Avatar, which includes the Daily Maverick, FSMS, free messaging service, Pondering Panda, and Mxit in its portfolio.
Knott-Craig Jnr said he was no longer involved with World of Avatar. “I’m no longer a shareholder in Avatar. It owns all the companies we bought/started, with the exception of Daily Maverick.”
On his future plans in the industry, he said: “I have plenty of ideas, but the secret to happiness is to make sure you’re over the previous relationship before getting in bed with the next beautiful girl… I’m on a self-imposed sabbatical which may or may not end in the next couple months. In other words, I’m not involved in any serious projects at present, and I hope to be the first to know when the rubber hits the road again.”
