Cell C shareholder chairperson, founding member dies

Cell C announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, 24 December 2013, that (Ret) Lt General Lehlohonolo Moloi, founding member and Chairman of the boards of 3C Telecommunications and CellSAF (Pty) Ltd, has passed away at 81.

“General Moloi passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at the Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg on Monday 23 December 2013,” Cell C said.

Moloi was a struggle stalwart who joined Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1962 and was part of the MK Military Headquarters, Cell C said. There he worked alongside Oliver Tambo, Joe Modise, Joe Slovo and Chris Hani as Chief of Operations.

“He was one of the architects in the integration and formation of the new SANDF in 1994 and served as Lieutenant General until his retirement. Due to his seniority and rank as a former commander in the Military, the ANC ordered that he be one of the pallbearers bidding Madiba farewell on his journey to his final resting place,” said Jose Dos Santos, Cell C acting CEO.

“He was a leader, humble man and a real people’s person,” Dos Santos said.

Cell C said that its shareholders, directors, management and staff of Cell C, CellSAF and 3C Telecommunications convey their deepest sympathy to the family of General Moloi.
