Telkom jobs lotto gets colour-coded
Telkom announced on Wednesday (25 June 2014) that it has published its new management structures, which will inform staff members on the safety of their current positions.
The telco has said that 2,635 management staff will be affected by a restructuring process which forms part of its “Fit for the Future” project with the firm intending to shrink its “management layer” by as much as 25%.
Unions have put the number of expected retrenchments at 1,000 senior employees.
Telkom recently noted that it reduced its employee count by 9.5% during the financial period ended March 2013, to 19,197, from 21,209 before.
Some managers and specialists will be safe from possible retrenchments, while others will have to apply for their altered positions or new positions.
Telkom has colour coded their new job structures. “All employees in yellow or green roles will receive letters confirming them in their current positions,” it said.
“For affected employees, the placement process will kick off with a formal application process which opens for all red, blue, green and vacant yellow roles on 26 June 2014,” it added.
Telkom said that an option to apply for a Voluntary Separation Package (VSP) or Voluntary Early Retirement Package (VERP) will be made available.
It stressed that applications must be submitted between 26 June and 30 June for all levels M5/S5 and above.
“Timelines for placements remain unchanged and a detailed placement schedule will be published on 1 July 2014,” the company said.
“You are encouraged to please ensure you stay involved and informed,” it told its employees.
