Telkom has warned of a public recruitment scam which promises a paid internship at the company after candidates pay a R90 “learnership fee”.

The “Telkom Internship” scam – promising a monthly salary of R9,894.33 – has been advertised online through Gumtree, targeting people in Bloemfontein, the greater Free State, and Limpopo.

“[It is] very worrying that these con men are using the Telkom brand to conduct their criminal activities. We would like to reassure the public that we have launched an investigation into this fraud and will pursue the investigation in close consultation with the SAPS,” said Telkom.

“We would like to warn people to be cautious when pursuing offers online.”

Those who are unsure as to whether a potential position at Telkom is legitimate or not can check by visiting the company’s jobs page website.
