MTN appoints new Group operations executive

MTN Group (MTN) has appointed current MTN Uganda CEO, Themba Khumalo as the Group’s operations executive.

As the operations executive, Khumalo will be responsible for managing MTN operations in 13 countries, including Afghanistan, Benin, Botswana, Congo Brazzaville, Cyprus, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Rwanda, Sudan, Swaziland, Yemen and Zambia.

Khumalo joined MTN when it launched in South Africa in 1994 and has years of experience in telecoms, having served as CEO for MTN Swaziland, Rwanda and then Uganda.

Working in Uganda, Khumalo helped MTN achieve close to 60% growth in subscribers; a successful launch of MTN’s Mobile Money; as well as introducing the biggest 3G+ network in the Ugandan market.

MTN Group CEO, Sifiso Dabengwa said that Khumalo’s successor in Uganda will be announced soon.
