The City Press has reported that an acquisition process by Armscor is aimed at providing president Jacob Zuma with a new VIP jet which could cost up to R4 billion.

According to the report, the specifications for the jet include a “private bedroom suite, a bathroom, and a conference room for eight people”.

“The aircraft must be able to carry at least 30 passengers and have a range of 13,800km,” stated the report.

The City Press said the Secretary of Defence Sam Gulube confirmed that his department asked Armscor to “procure a VIP yet for Zuma”.

The first step in the acquisition process is a Request for Information, which was published on the Armscor website.

“Information is required for: Inter-Continental VIP Aircraft,” was its title, with a deadline of 20 November 2015.

The Armscor website was down on Sunday morning following the report, but the details of the tender could still be accessed via Google cache.

More details about Zuma’s new jet are available in the City Press of 8 November 2015.
