Watch: shootout between criminals and residents at Joburg complex
Police are still searching for two brazen suspects who shot at residents in a complex in Randburg, north of Johannesburg, on Tuesday last week.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan urged residents to be patient while police investigate.
This comes after residents at the Bellairs Manor complex posted CCTV footage on Facebook of the two armed men as they attempted to hijack a car at the complex.
The footage shows the two men entering the complex in a silver Hyundai.
One of the men assaults a security guard with an unknown object, while another forces his car into the complex.
The men then disappear from the view of the camera as they chase after the security guard.
The two men reappear and one wields a gun, while the other man drives off. One of the armed man then fires several shots towards the complex.
More than 500 people have shared the CCTV footage from the complex’s Facebook page. Residents say they are appealing to the public to help find the two men. No one was injured during the shooting.
However, residents reported that the security guard who was assaulted during the incident sustained head injuries as well as a broken arm.
Muthan said no arrests had yet been made.
