TopTV reveals adult channel launch dates
Satellite pay-TV broadcaster TopTV plans to begin airing its PlayBoy TV channels on 20 January 2012 “or shortly thereafter,” it recently told South Africa’s regulator, ICASA.
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) demanded that TopTV reveal its launch plans to them.
This was so they could be sure TopTV wouldn’t begin broadcasting its new adult channels before ICASA’s public consultation process ran its course, explained TopTV’s head of regulatory affairs, Thato Mahapa.
ICASA has also filed an urgent court interdict against TopTV to prevent the broadcaster from launching it planned adult channels. The hearing is set for this Friday, 13 January 2012.
TopTV’s Adult Pack will cost R199 per month, and will include three channels from PlayBoy TV.
