E-tolls shut down as Sanral office evacuated: report
Sanral‘s offices have been evacuated after a suspicious powder was found in the building, causing the e-toll system to be temporarily shut down.
This is according to tweets posted by EyeWitness News on Tuesday (21 January), confirmed by die Beeld newspaper.
According to reports, Sanral’s offices in Samrand, Midrand, were evacuated as a safety precaution, after the substance was found. The substance has reportedly been taken in for testing.
No injuries were reported, while Tshwane Emergency Services as well as the South African Police Service (SAPS) were on the scene.
Spokesman for Sanral, Vusi Mona, told Power987 News as well as die Beeld, that the e-tolling system will be affected by the incident as all staff were evacuated, and no one is able to monitor the systems.
The controversial Gauteng e-tolling system officially launched on 3 December 2013, and has faced fierce opposition by commuters and road users across the province.
