South Africa’s power grid remained under pressure on Tuesday, Eskom said.

“Over the evening peak, in the early evening, we are expecting the grid to be exceptionally tight with a chance of needing to reduce demand,” spokesman Andrew Etzinger said.

“A similar situation for Wednesday and Thursday evening as well is expected, and that is due to expected high demand related to the weather.”

The company has previously urged users to switch off appliances and geysers during the 5pm to 9pm peak, and especially between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, when the peak was most pronounced.
