Cell C slashes call rate to 50c per minute
Cell C has axed the price of its 66c per minute promotional prepaid offering, down to 50c per minute.
“We are exceptionally pleased to be able to continue to champion consumers’ right to affordable communication with the introduction of our new 50c per minute call tariff,” said Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos.
Like its 66c prepaid promotion, the new 50c per minute tariff will be billed per second.
“This rate cut comes off the back of an overwhelming response we have had from customers to the original offering of 66c,” Dos Santos said.
“It is clear that many consumers continue to look for a no frills, simple and transparent voice offering with an exceptional rate. That’s exactly what we are giving them with our new 50c call rate,” he added.
This promotional offer will be available from 25 July 2014 to 30 September 2014 from all Cell C franchise stores and prepaid partners.
Existing customers can migrate to this tariff by dialling *147# or calling 141 from their Cell C cellphone.
Cell C said it would consider implementing this rate on a permanent basis once there is clarity regarding the Mobile Termination Rate Regulations.
The network explained that the new 50c rate will have the same structure as the 66c product, which means SupaCharge benefits will not apply and an ad-hoc data rate of R2/MB wil be charged.
Additional bundles are available for customers looking to add data to this offering, Cell C said, which offers rates of 15c per Megabyte or lower.
