Petrol price unchanged
The retail price of petrol in South Africa will remain unchanged at R14.33 rand a litre from next Wednesday, the Department of Energy said on Friday.
The price of wholesale diesel will dip by 0.4%, from R12.90 (0.05%) to R12,84.
This news should come as relief to some motorists who were expecting a large jump in the price.
On Thursday (31 July), the Automobile Association warned that the petrol price could rise by 26 cents per litre.
“There has been a slow, but steady uptick in the Rand/US dollar exchange rate since the start of July,” it said as rationale for its view.
“Over the same period, international petroleum prices have come off their mid-June highs, but not enough to offset the under-recovery in the petrol price.”
