Petrol price to decrease by 45 cents

 ·31 Oct 2014

The price of petrol in South Africa will decrease by 45 cents per litre on 5 November, the energy department said on Friday.

The price of diesel with 0.05% sulphur will drop by 61 cents per litre, and diesel with 0.005% sulphur will decrease by 60 cents.

Illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will fall by 70 per litre and liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by 105.0 cents/kilogram.

According to the Central Energy Fund, the drop in price is attributable to a decline in the international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin during the review period.

However, the weakening of the Rand against the US Dollar increased the contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 12.33 cents per litre, 12.49 cents per litre and 12.64 cents per litre respectively.

In October, the energy department lifted the price of 93 Octane petrol by 2 cents; however drivers who use 95 Octane fuel, saw a 5 cents decrease.

Both grades of diesel dropped of 13 cents, while illuminating paraffin fell 14 cents.
