Load shedding easing to stage 3 this week

Power utility Eskom says that load shedding will be downgraded to stage 3 on Wednesday – with Stage 5 remaining in effect until then.

Stage 5 load shedding will continue on Monday (12 Febraury) until 05h00 on Tuesday, when outages will move to stage 3.

Stage 3 will be in effect between 05h00 and 16h00, before moving back up to stage 4 in the evening until 05h00 on Wednesday, when stage 2 will kick in again.

This pattern of stage 3 during the day and stage 4 at night will continue until further notice.

Monday, 12 February

Tuesday, 13 February

  • Stage 5: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00

Wednesday, 14 February

  • Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00

Thursday, 15 February

  • Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00

Eskom said that it has returned five generating units to service over the past 24 hours, allowing emergency reserves to be adequately replenished.

Breakdowns have been reduced to 14,579MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance remains relatively high at 7,316MW.

The group said that its teams are working to restore 2,150MW of generating capacity by Wednesday.
