Stage 2 load shedding Eskom

Update: As from 20:10 this evening, Eskom reverted back to Stage 1 load shedding. Load shedding is planned until 22:00.

Eskom announced that stage 2 load shedding was implemented from just before 18:00 on Thursday (23 April 2015), and that it is expected to continue until 22:00.

A further shortage of generating capacity and increased demand resulted in the need for increased load shedding, Eskom said.

The announcement comes after the power utility said earlier on Thursday that Stage 1 load shedding would be necessary from 17:00 to 22:00.

Stage 1 allows for 1,000MW of load on the power grid to be shed, while Stage 2 allows for 2,000MW of load shedding.

Thursday marks the the 12th day of load shedding in a row that South Africans have had to face.
