Ferrari, McLaren and Audi R8 sell for millions at SA auction

 ·7 Oct 2017

A bidder at Park Village Auctions‘ latest bank repossessed vehicle auction shaved hundreds of thousands of rands off the price of a 2013 Ferrari 458 Italia, when the super car was grabbed for R3.3 million.

The Ferrari, which is usually sold second-hand for between R3.5 million and R4.2 million in South Africa, was one of seven luxury vehicles that went under the hammer – with other supercars like the McLaren MP4-12C, Audi R8 and even the BMW i8 also featuring.

“While more buyers turn to car auctions as a means to pick up quality used vehicles at good rates, there is no exception for supercars and classics either,” said Park Village Auctions’ Clive Lazarus.

Apart from the Ferrari 458 Italia, the next biggest sale was a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, which sold for just under R2 million, and a 2014 Audi R8, which sold for just over R850,000.

This is how the repossessed vehicles sold at the auction, compared to their typical sale value (via Autotrader and Cars.co.za):

“The prices realised (at the auction) were above expectation and we are pleased with the results given our current economic climate. I believe that these results are indicative of how astute buyers recognise our auctions as a reliable place to invest in clean, low kilometre vehicles,” Lazarus said.
