The total number of persons employed in the post and telecommunications industry at the end of June 2013 was 107,000, StatsSA said.<\/p>\n
Telecommunications employed the largest number of persons at 70,229, or 66%.<\/p>\n
Employment in the post and telecommunications <\/b>industry increased by 6.0% per annum compared with the number of employees reported in the corresponding survey of 2010 – 89,859.<\/p>\n
Casual employees (8,766) recorded the highest increase of 74,4% per annum over the number (1,653) reported in the corresponding survey of 2010.<\/p>\n
While, permanent employees (82,693) recorded the a decrease of 0,6% per annum over the number (84,248) reported in the corresponding survey of 2010.<\/p>\n
Changes in income from internet<\/b><\/p>\n
The total income from internet services in telecommunications was R35.1 billion, which represents an increase of 8.6% per annum over income from internet services reported in the corresponding survey of 2010 (R27.3 billion).<\/p>\n
The largest contributors to income from internet services was data revenue \u2013 wireless at R19.7 billion or 56.2%, and data revenue \u2013 fixed, at R11.0 billion or 31.3%.<\/p>\n
Income from data revenue \u2013 wireless also recorded the highest increase of 14.2% per annum, StatsSA said.<\/p>\n
StatsSA said that thhe census of enterprises in the post and telecommunications industry was conducted by post, email, fax, telephone and personal visits<\/p>\n Collection rate = (collected units + finalised investigations\/sample size) x 100.
