Airbus, the airplane manufacturing giant, has filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, proposing a radical new seating arrangement.<\/p>\n

It is assumed that Airbus is looking at ways to cram in more passengers onto flights.<\/p>\n

The patent proposes creating a \u201cmezzanine sitting area\u201d in the \u201csubstantially unused upper lobe of the aircraft fuselage.\u201d<\/p>\n

“In modern means of transport, in particular in aircraft, it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin,” Airbus said.<\/p>\n

The seating arrangement would still ensure a ‘high level of comfort’.<\/p>\n

In July, a french design company,\u00a0Zodiac Seats France, filed a patent in which it proposed face-to-face seating arrangements for commercial flights in order to squeeze more passengers in.<\/p>\n
