{"id":100638,"date":"2015-10-08T19:30:28","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T17:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=100638"},"modified":"2015-10-08T18:35:52","modified_gmt":"2015-10-08T16:35:52","slug":"top-10-best-selling-suvs-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/100638\/top-10-best-selling-suvs-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 10 best selling SUVs in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New vehicle sales in South Africa continues to spiral downwards in 2015 amid economic pressure.<\/p>\n<p>For September, sales declined 9% year-on-year, the largest so far in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, showed that 50 251 new vehicles were sold in the country in September, down significantly from 58,943 in the same month in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>BusinessTech looks at the 10 best selling SUVs from the total list of published by Naamsa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <strong>Ford Ecosport &#8211; 919<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ford-EcoSport.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-70817 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ford-EcoSport.png\" alt=\"Ford EcoSport\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ford-EcoSport.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ford-EcoSport-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The best selling SUV, albeit a &#8216;compact&#8217; crossover, is the <strong>Ford Ecosport<\/strong>, which is the 12th best selling car in the country overall in September.<\/p>\n<p>The utility vehicle is the third best selling vehicle by Ford in the country, behind the Ranger and Fiesta, selling 919 units during last month.<\/p>\n<p>The car ranges from <strong>R217,900<\/strong> for a 1.5 TiVCT Ambiente, to a 1.5 TDCi Titanium, at <strong>R274,900<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>Toyota Fortuner &#8211; 570<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Toyota-Fortuner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-70815 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Toyota-Fortuner.png\" alt=\"Toyota Fortuner\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Toyota-Fortuner.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Toyota-Fortuner-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Toyota Fortuner sold 570 units in September, and is classed as a mid-sized SUV. This Toyota banker is the 19th best selling vehicle overall in SA.<\/p>\n<p>It is priced from R399,500 for a 2.5 D-4D, to R567,200 for a 4.0 V6 4X4 Auto boasting an impressive maximum power of 175 kW at\u00a05200 r\/min.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Renault Captur &#8211; 420<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Renault-Captur-600x400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100716\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Renault-Captur-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Renault-Captur-600x400\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Renault-Captur-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Renault-Captur-600x400-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Renault Captur <span class=\"st\" data-hveid=\"66\">is the new kid on the block in the growing crossover SUV class, having launched in the country in May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Being french, the Renault brand has its skeptics, however it&#8217;s popularity has soared following the introduction of the most recent Clio model.<\/p>\n<p>The Clio is the 14th best selling car in the country according to the most recent figures, while the new Captur is 23rd on the overall list.<\/p>\n<p>Price ranges from <strong>R219,900<\/strong> for the Captur Expression 66kW Turbo, to <strong>R279,900<\/strong> for the Captur Dynamique 88kW EDC Turbo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Toyota Rav4 &#8211; 413<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rav-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100748\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rav-4.png\" alt=\"Rav 4\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rav-4.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rav-4-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At 24th on the overall best sellers list with 413 units, the Toyota Rav4 is an old favourite in SA, stretching back to its original launch (who can forget the original advert &#8211; <span class=\"st\"><em>Claudia Schiffer<\/em> in hiking-<em>boots<\/em><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s price ranges from R317,800 for a 2.0 MT GX, to R480,800 for a 2.2 D AT VX, with the top of the range version giving a maximum power of 110 kW at 3600 r\/min.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Ford Kuga &#8211; 300<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/FordKuga.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100722\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/FordKuga.jpg\" alt=\"FordKuga\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/FordKuga.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/FordKuga-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another Ford, this time the older slightly bigger brother of the Ecosport, the Kuga. With 300 units sold last month, this model is the 31 best selling car in SA.<\/p>\n<p>The Kuga 1.5 EcoBoost Ambiente FWD starts at <strong>R329,900<\/strong>, with the Kuga 2.0 EcoBoost Titanium Auto AWD priced at <strong>R449,900<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Add R20,000 for a styling pack.<\/p>\n<p>The latter model has a\u00a0 maximum power of 132 kW at 5700 r\/min.<\/p>\n<p>6. <strong>Nissan Qashqai &#8211; 266<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Nissan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100724\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Nissan.jpg\" alt=\"Nissan\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Nissan.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Nissan-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Nissan Qashqai brand is among the most popular cars ever built by the Japanese company.<\/p>\n<p>The Qashqai sold 266 units in September giving it an overall ranking of 32.<\/p>\n<p>The Nissan comes at a starting price of <strong>R289,900<\/strong> for a Visia 1.2T 2WD, beating out 85KW, to an Acenta AWD, priced from <strong>R396,700<\/strong> for a 1.6dCi providing 96KW at 4000RPM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> <strong>Nissan X-Trail &#8211; 231<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NissanXTrail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100726\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NissanXTrail.jpg\" alt=\"NissanXTrail\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NissanXTrail.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NissanXTrail-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nissan launched its crossover, the new X-Trail, in South Africa in 2014. It sold 231 units in SA in September, making it the 36th top car in SA.<\/p>\n<p>The X Trail starts at R329,900 for a 2.0, moving up to R378,300 for a 1.6dCi 4WD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.<\/strong> <strong>Volkswagen Tiguan &#8211; 221<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/VW-Tiguan.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100746\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/VW-Tiguan.png\" alt=\"VW Tiguan\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/VW-Tiguan.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/VW-Tiguan-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first showing on the list for VW, given that its Volkswagen Polo is the number one biggest seller in the country, the Tiguan comes in at 38th on the overall list, with 221 units sold last month.<\/p>\n<p>The 1.4 TSI boasts 90kW using BlueMotion Technology\u00a0 and is priced from <strong>R340,900<\/strong>. The 2.0 TSI 4Motion\u00a0 puts out 103kW @ 4200 r\/min price from &#8211; <strong>R499,200<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> <strong>Jeep Grand Cherokee &#8211; 166<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jeep-Grand-Cherokee.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100742\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jeep-Grand-Cherokee.png\" alt=\"Jeep Grand Cherokee\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jeep-Grand-Cherokee.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jeep pushed out a winner in the Grand Cherokee for those looking for a masculine &#8216;merican&#8217; muscle car.<\/p>\n<p>At 49th best selling car in SA with 166 units, Jeep has done well considering its price.<\/p>\n<p>This brand starts at R724,990 for a 3.6L V6 Limited, going up to R1 099 990 for a monster 6.4L SRT8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Toyota Prado &#8211; 164<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/prado.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-100730\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/prado.jpg\" alt=\"prado\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/prado.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/prado-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Prado is a South African legend, ranked as the 50th best selling car in the country with 164 units last month.<\/p>\n<p>This beast starts at R700,600 for a 3.0 Diesel TX Auto, and from R810,200 for a 3.0 Diesel VX Auto (with Sunroof), which pushes out 120 KW @ 3400 r\/min.<\/p>\n<p>Other SUV&#8217;s that sold more than 100 units in September include:<\/p>\n<p>54.
