{"id":101204,"date":"2015-10-15T09:16:07","date_gmt":"2015-10-15T07:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=101204"},"modified":"2015-10-15T09:16:07","modified_gmt":"2015-10-15T07:16:07","slug":"all-gauteng-govt-contracts-under-r500000-to-be-given-to-township-based-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/101204\/all-gauteng-govt-contracts-under-r500000-to-be-given-to-township-based-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"All Gauteng govt contracts under R500,000 to be given to township-based businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gauteng Provincial Government has committed to giving qualifying township-based businesses all contracts that are under R500,000.<\/p>\n<p>Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development Lebogang Maile said the provincial government had taken a decision that 30% of its budget will be spent on township entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>He was addressing community members in Ivory Park during the launch of the Qondis\u2019 ishishini lakho \u2013 meaning fix your business \u2013 campaign on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is aimed at registering\u00a010,000\u00a0township small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) with a turnover of less than R1 million.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial Department of Economic Development has enlisted the help of 1,000 volunteers who will crisscross the province to assist township business owners register their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>MEC Maile said government wanted to give business to people who are committed entrepreneurs as they in turn create jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom now on there will be no excuses for any government department or agency to overlook township businesses in procurement processes,\u201d MEC Maile said.<\/p>\n<p>He said almost 300 township businesses in construction and maintenance are currently providing services in public buildings, schools, hospitals and police stations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver 50 township clothing and textiles businesses are supplying linen to hospitals in the province, the same hospitals are procuring 40% of fresh produce from black farmers &#8211;
