{"id":101268,"date":"2015-10-15T19:30:44","date_gmt":"2015-10-15T17:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=101268"},"modified":"2015-10-15T18:00:39","modified_gmt":"2015-10-15T16:00:39","slug":"top-10-best-selling-bakkies-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/101268\/top-10-best-selling-bakkies-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 10 best-selling bakkies in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rivalry between Ford and Toyota in the pick up, or &#8216;bakkie&#8217; category has been fierce in 2015, with the Hilux and Ranger among the top selling vehicles in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Data from Lightstone Auto and Naamsa shows that three of the top five best selling vehicles in SA in 2015 are bakkies, with only the Volkswagen Polo Vivo able to keep pace.<\/p>\n<p>The Hilux outsold the Ranger in February by a mere 19 units, but in March sold more than 500 units more than the Ford.<\/p>\n<p>In June, however, the Ranger pipped Hilux by just over 100 vehicles, but in July, the Toyota brand surged ahead, offloading nearly 1,000 units more than its competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, for September showed that the Hilux was the best selling bakkie in the country, and second most popular vehicle overall.<\/p>\n<p>The Ranger is second best seller in September, and fourth overall, however, the two marks have regularly swapped places month-to-month in 2015.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Toyota Hilux- 3,431<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Toyota launched the eighth-generation Toyota Hilux in 2015. Ford Ranger &#8211; 2,865<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>the second best seller last month was a Ford Ranger, with 2865<\/p>\n<p>The Ranger has 34 different styling options in South Africa &#8211; starting at R189,900 for a Ranger 2.5 Base LR 5MT Chassis Cab Petrol, and going up to R558,900 for a Ranger 3.2 Wildtrak 4&#215;4 6AT Double Cab Diesel.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Ford unveiled its Ranger Wildtrak 2016 model in SA.<\/p>\n<p>The base single cab pushes out 122 kw at 5,500 rpm, with torque of 226 Nm at 4,500 rpm, while the top of the range model pushes out 147 kw at 3,000 rpm.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ford-ranger.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-101328\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ford-ranger.jpg\" alt=\"ford-ranger\" width=\"599\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ford-ranger.jpg 599w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/ford-ranger-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.
