{"id":101318,"date":"2015-10-15T15:06:54","date_gmt":"2015-10-15T13:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=101318"},"modified":"2015-10-15T15:06:54","modified_gmt":"2015-10-15T13:06:54","slug":"meet-openserve-telkoms-redesigned-wholesale-division","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/industry-news\/101318\/meet-openserve-telkoms-redesigned-wholesale-division\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet Openserve, Telkom\u2019s redesigned wholesale division"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Openserve is a distinct business unit within the Telkom Group, formed to offer a renewed focus on wholesale customers in particular.<\/p>\n<p>The separation heralds a new era in Telkom as it prepares to welcome a more open access environment and all the opportunities it offers.<\/p>\n<p>Openserve\u2019s formation is in line with Telkom\u2019s turnaround strategy to separate its wholesale and retail divisions to facilitate greater focus, accountability and most importantly, customer-centricity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the past two years, our strategy has delivered positive results, but it is not yet complete,&#8221;\u00a0said Telkom GCEO Sipho Maseko.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have tackled inefficiency, complexity and high costs and our quest to improve our customer experience remains a primary focus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But to fundamentally change the way we do business, while also working to take up a meaningful and impactful role in an increasingly open-access environment, we have had to review our operating model.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As part of Telkom\u2019s transformation journey, the company has created distinct business units.<\/p>\n<p>Separation is important for Telkom as it facilitates the independence of the Consumer division from the Wholesale and Networks division.<\/p>\n<p>Through this separation, Telkom will improve its customer focus and establish clearer lines of accountability.<\/p>\n<p>As a stand-alone business unit within Telkom, Openserve will be autonomous and will be responsible for its own profit and loss account.<\/p>\n<p>According to Alphonzo Samuels, the MD for Openserve, the separation signals Telkom\u2019s commitment to a more competitive market and lower prices for consumers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Telkom has already begun reducing prices associated with wholesale network infrastructure access. With the launch of Openserve, we want to make a significant impact on the way we provide open access broadband to all South Africans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We welcome a more open-access environment and believe that we, as Openserve, can make important headway in helping all South African bridge the digital divide,&#8221; said Samuels.<\/p>\n<p>As a key driver of socio-economic development, Openserve will enable more choice, increased innovation and greater service-provider competition.<\/p>\n<p>The result will be increased broadband access.
