information from reliable sources that , and that a deal between the two companies is now more likely than before.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C is majority owned by Dubai-based Oger Telecom.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the 2015 MyBroadband Conference, Telkom COO Brian Armstrong confirmed that there have been discussions between the two operators.<\/p>\n<p>He said\u00a0Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko made it clear that if the price was right, they would be interested in buying Cell C.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-09-28\/telkom-said-to-seek-less-than-1-6-billion-cell-c-asking-price-if3wfved\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>On 28 September, Bloomberg reported that<\/strong><\/a> Telkom was looking\u00a0to buy Cell C for less than the R22 billion value placed on the mobile operator by its owners.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg stated Telkom was only prepared to pay R18 billion for the business, citing a person familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of September,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/business\/technology\/2015\/09\/29\/telkom-and-cell-c-talks-stymied-by-price\" target=\"_blank\">Business Day reported<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>a \u201cpotential takeover of Cell C by Telkom was stalling over price\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband recently received information that Telkom has now increased its original offer to try to make the deal happen.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that even if the two companies agree on a price, there will still be many regulatory, competition, and other considerations before an acquisition can\u00a0take place.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband asked Cell C for comment, but the company said it was\u00a0\u201ca matter for Cell C\u2019s shareholders to comment on\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>We then asked\u00a0Oger Telecom for comment, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.\u00a0Telkom also did not respond to questions by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">More on Cell
