{"id":102241,"date":"2015-10-26T13:38:38","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T11:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=102241"},"modified":"2015-10-26T13:38:38","modified_gmt":"2015-10-26T11:38:38","slug":"top-10-most-valuable-brands-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/102241\/top-10-most-valuable-brands-in-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 10 most valuable brands in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African mobile operator MTN has been voted as the most \u2018admired\u2019 brand in Africa, and most valuable African brand.<\/p>\n<p>Brand Africa\u2019s 2015 Brand Africa 100 found that African brands accounted for 23% of best brands on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>The most valuable top 5 brands globally\u00a0were as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Apple<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Samsung<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Google<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Microsoft<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Coca-Cola<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Electronics (16%) related companies featured most prominently on the top 100 list, followed by\u00a0 apparel (14%), auto manufacturers (13%), telecommunications (11%) and alcoholic beverages (10%).<\/p>\n<p>In Africa, Nigeria surpassed South Africa for the number of brands featured on the list (11%), with South Africa and Kenya based companies making up 4% of the total, each.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: <a href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/94487\/the-most-popular-brands-in-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\">The most popular brands in South Africa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although voted as the most valuable brand in Africa, MTN was only 40th on the overall list. Vodafone, and by association, Vodacom, was ranked as the 9th most valuable brand, with a value of US$27.287 billion, ahead of social media giant, Facebook with a value of US$24.118 billion.<\/p>\n<h3 research was conducted by Geopoll, using mobile SMS technology to identify the most admired local and non-local brands in Africa among a representative sample of African countries&#8217; consumers in
