{"id":10326,"date":"2012-04-19T12:36:48","date_gmt":"2012-04-19T10:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=10326"},"modified":"2012-04-19T13:03:58","modified_gmt":"2012-04-19T11:03:58","slug":"sa-ict-sector-must-respond-to-governments-objectives-pule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/10326\/sa-ict-sector-must-respond-to-governments-objectives-pule\/","title":{"rendered":"SA ICT sector must respond to govt&#8217;s objectives: Pule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa\u2019s Minister of Communications, <a title=\"Dina Pule\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2128-Dina-Pule\">Dina Pule<\/a>, opened the National Integrated ICT Policy Colloquium today (19 April 2012), where the <a title=\"DoC - Department of Communications\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2129-DoC-Department-of-Communications\">Department of Communications (DoC) <\/a>aims to offer industry a chance to review the DoC\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>Pule said that the final policy has to be aligned with government\u2019s developmental goals while addressing the challenges faced in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.<\/p>\n<p>These issues include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attracting more women in ICT, as well as encouraging more young women to enter the ICT sector;<\/li>\n<li>Increased local R&amp;D, conducted in environmentally friendly way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis review has to remove aspects of legislation that are irrelevant and are hindering economic development or growth,\u201d Pule continued, explaining that they couldn\u2019t afford to have a piece-meal approach to the policy review.<\/p>\n<p>Pule said that such an approach would only allow certain policy holes to be closed rather than lay the foundation for a prosperous future.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister went on to explain that from her deliberations with industry a consistent view has emerged that their policy needs to be realigned.
