The digital golf magazine has Fancourt in the Western Cape, as the fifth most expensive, with fees of \u00a340,000 (R853,000).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s golfing landscape has changed over the past decade, thanks to an influx of\u00a0 luxury residential golf estates which have employed the services of some of the biggest names in course design including our very own Ernie Els, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus.<\/p>\n<p>Gone are the days when you simply arrive at a course as early as your hangover allows you, argue over the expensive green fees, lie about your reciprocity status, and tee up.<\/p>\n<p>At least half of the 10 best courses in South Africa are located on residential estates &#8211; and unless you are fortunate enough to be invited, you essentially need to own a multi million rand property overlooking the course you would like to play on, just to be considered for membership to then be able to play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fancourt<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_86190\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fancourt.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86190\" class=\"size-full wp-image-86190\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fancourt.png\" alt=\"Fancourt\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fancourt.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Fancourt-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-86190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fancourt Estate<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Fancourt, situated on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, embodies more than one course under its brand.<\/p>\n<p>The Links is currently ranked No. 1 in South Africa (Golf Digest Rankings 2014\/15) and was ranked 34th in the world in 2014 by Golf Digest USA.<\/p>\n<p>The Montagu and Outeniqua golf courses are both ranked in the Top 20 in South Africa. Play at\u00a0these two courses is restricted to members, their guests and resort guests only.<\/p>\n<p>The Montagu and Outeniqua golf courses cost <strong>R600<\/strong> for hotel guests wanting to play 18 holes, with an additional charge of <strong>R205<\/strong> for a caddie and R295 for a cart.<\/p>\n<p>Hotel guests wanting to play the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fancourt.com\/docs\/1367\/20150811%20Golf%20Rates.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Links<\/a> can expect to pay <strong>R1,900<\/strong> for a round, with an additional <strong>R205<\/strong> for a caddie.<\/p>\n<p>Play on the course is restricted to estate home owners and hotel guests &#8211; sculpted into what Gary Player has described as his greatest feat as a course designer.<\/p>\n<p>If you grow tired of hotel accommodation each time you wish to play at the course, a four bedroom Cape Dutch home can set you back R10.5 million in Fancourt.<\/p>\n<p>There are several distinctive residential areas on the estate including: Links Ridge, Links Avenue, Cape Dutch Village, Oakland\u2019s Village and Montagu Ridge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pearl Valley<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/PearlValley-e1448023779764.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-104839\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/PearlValley-e1448023779764.jpg\" alt=\"PearlValley\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a>Nestled in the Berg River Valley, surrounded by the Simonsberg Mountains, <a href=\"http:\/\/pearlvalley.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/2015-Membership-Plan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Pearl Valley<\/a>\u00a0 is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.<\/p>\n<p>Annual subscription fees for residential members cots <strong>R19,200<\/strong>. However, an entrance fee of R55,000 is payable to the Pearl Valley Golf &amp; Country Club upon transfer of a property to a new owner.<\/p>\n<p>This entrance fee is included in the purchase price of properties owned by the developer.<\/p>\n<p>For a non-residential member, a once off purchase of a membership costs <strong>R25,000<\/strong>, with an annual subscription fee of <strong>R12,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Summer green fees for members costs <strong>R430<\/strong>, and <strong>R270<\/strong> in the Winter.<\/p>\n<p>A prepaid golf membership costs <strong>R14,300<\/strong> annually and allows unlimited green fees.<\/p>\n<p>Private carts are allowed on the course for home owners, while carts can be rented for R230 per round.<\/p>\n<p>A game of golf for a non-member costs between <strong>R795<\/strong> and <strong>R1,195<\/strong>, depending on the time of season.<\/p>\n<p>A 3 bedroom apartment in Pearl Valley Golf Estate can cost as little as R3.2 million, while a 4 bedroom home will set you back between R10-12.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Only a landlord in terms of a lease agreement of six months or longer may nominate a\u00a0 tenant for membership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>De Zalze<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DeZalze-e1448028217945.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-104849\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/DeZalze-e1448028217945.jpg\" alt=\"DeZalze\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>The De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate is located on the eastern fringe of Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n<p>The estate houses a 18 hole championship golf course, the Kleine Zalze winery, three restaurants, the Kleine Zalze Lodges and the Winelands Golf Lodges.<\/p>\n<p>Residential adult members pay <strong>R15,000<\/strong> to join with a non resident\/outside member paying <strong>R25,000<\/strong> to join the cub.<\/p>\n<p>Once a member, you pay a subscription fee of <strong>R7,700<\/strong> and then green fees of R200.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Social&#8217; golfers can pay a subscription of <strong>R1,400<\/strong> and hack a round of golf\u00a0 for R450 in Winter and\u00a0 <strong>R720<\/strong> in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>A five bedroom house for sale in De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate can set you back R17.2 million, with a 1 bedroom apartment costing R1.925 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arabella<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/arabella-golf-e1448025368887.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-104841\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/arabella-golf-e1448025368887.jpg\" alt=\"arabella-golf\" width=\"600\" height=\"409\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Arabella Country Estate is situated in Kleinmond, Overberg, in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>For a visitor to the course it is comparatively expensive. <strong>R1,095<\/strong> buys you 18 holes of golf, while <strong>R795<\/strong> gets you 9 holes.
