The CEO of the company that uncovered the biggest diamond to be found in the past century says that he wants at least $60 million (R854 million) for it.<\/p>\n

William Lamb, chief executive officer of Lucara Diamond Corp, which last week uncovered the 1,111 carat gem in Botswana, noted <\/a>that current estimates put the diamond “north of $60 million”, based on $60,000 (R850,000) per carat.<\/p>\n

The stone originated from the south lobe of Lucara\u2019s Karowe Mine in Botswana, and is the world\u2019s second largest gem quality diamond ever recovered and the largest ever to be recovered through a modern processing facility.<\/p>\n

The stone measures 65mm x 56mm x 40mm in size.<\/p>\n

Lamb said that he has rejected an offer of over $40 million (R570 million) for the diamond, with London’s Natural History Museum interested in displaying the stone, and the Discovery Channel interested in making a documentary about it.<\/p>\n
