{"id":105829,"date":"2015-12-19T15:00:11","date_gmt":"2015-12-19T13:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=105829"},"modified":"2015-12-21T08:35:20","modified_gmt":"2015-12-21T06:35:20","slug":"christmas-lights-could-be-killing-your-wi-fi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/105829\/christmas-lights-could-be-killing-your-wi-fi\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas lights could be killing your Wi-Fi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK regulator Ofcom has launched a Wi-Fi Checker application for Android and iOS, which tests the Wi-Fi network a\u00a0device is connected to for potential signal interference problems.<\/p>\n<p>Ofcom said interference can come from other electronic devices such as microwaves, baby monitors, lamps, and\u00a0Christmas fairy lights.<\/p>\n<p>This can change over time and have a different effect in different rooms of your house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recommend you try running the Wi-Fi Checker in different rooms and at the times of day when you\u2019re most likely to use the Internet,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator provided the following troubleshooting tips for fixing problems with your home Wi-Fi network.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Move your router away from electrical devices:<\/strong> Halogen lamps, electrical dimmer switches, stereo or computer speakers, fairy lights, TVs, monitors, and AC power cords.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Move your router to a different part of your home:<\/strong> The walls and furniture in your house act as an obstacle to the Wi-Fi radio frequencies.
