{"id":106151,"date":"2015-12-03T16:46:08","date_gmt":"2015-12-03T14:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=106151"},"modified":"2016-12-01T17:07:34","modified_gmt":"2016-12-01T15:07:34","slug":"south-africas-best-universities-vs-emerging-economies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/106151\/south-africas-best-universities-vs-emerging-economies\/","title":{"rendered":"Best universities in South Africa vs emerging markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Times Higher Education has published a list of the top universities in emerging economies, with two South African universities featuring in the top 10.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/world-university-rankings\/2016\/brics-and-emerging-economies#!\/page\/0\/length\/25\" target=\"_blank\">The ranking<\/a>: BRICS &amp; Emerging Economies Rankings 2016 includes only institutions in countries classified as emerging by FTSE, including the \u201cBRICS\u201d nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>China dominates the ranking with five universities inside the top, and 39 places in the top 200.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan is second best with 24 universities in the top 200, although it only has one inside the top 10. It falls down dramatically in teaching, with 26.2 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stellenbosch<\/strong> scores full marks for Industry income, but also scores poorly for teaching, with 28.2 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KZN University&#8217;s<\/strong> best mark is for International outlook, at 58.6 points, with teaching its worst performer, with 20.3 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pretoria University<\/strong> scores well for Industry income (52.4), but only 17.5 points for Citations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unisa<\/strong> meanwhile, achieves only 11.3 points for Citations, and 28.8 for
